    Job Duties

     

    • Ensures operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on engines, motors, pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, and production machines.
    • Repair mechanical systems to ensure they are consistent with health and safety standards.
    • Maintain the facility by following the standards of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, all internally recognized quality and food safety programs, and company policies.
    • Follows diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer’s instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions.
    • Locates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation; listening for problems; using precision measuring and testing instruments.
    • Removes defective parts by dismantling devices; using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools; examining form and texture of parts.
    • Determines changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts; using rulers, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
    • Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
    • Fabricates repair parts by using machine shop instrumentation and equipment.
    • Conserves maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.
    • Provides mechanical maintenance information by answering questions and requests.
    • Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
    • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks.
    • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations and company policies and procedures.
    • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
    • Carryout regular preventive maintenance on equipment to mitigate major damage.
    • Diagnose and repair or replace worn parts in machine and equipment.
    • Ensure that safety standards are maintained in the course of performing duties.
    • Ensure that the equipment areas and work environment are free of hazardous objects and substances.
    • Assist in supervising the activities of external technicians or sub-contractors and collaborate with the external repair team when necessary.
    • Keep proper record of work activities.
    • Submit reports on work activities and progress of work to the department supervisor.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations and company policies and procedures.
    • May be required to assist in the movement of materials and labor for projects.
    • Prepare parts for welding and/or machining and complete welding as required.
    • Set up machines including selection of appropriate abrasive belt, wheel, or disk.
    • Operate appropriate blending and deburring equipment including, but not limited to, die grinders, pencil grinders, belt sanders, mounted stones, etc.
    • Blend and deburr parts to specifications.
    • Inspect parts to verify conformance with specifications.
    • Assemble and test repaired products.
    • All activities associated with the tear down and repair of hydraulic equipment, machines and components.
    • Complete required paperwork.
    • Perform assembly, disassembly, blast, braze, sizing, heat treat and cleaning operations as specified in the travelers.
    • Maintenance of machine setup information as required.
    • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with the Occupational Health & Safety Act regulations and company policies and procedures.
    • Pick up and deliver machines/products from customers and/or suppliers.
    • Work overtime as required to complete projects/assignments
    • Assist on field projects as needed occasionally requiring travel.
    • Complete all training classes as assigned.
    • Perform other essential and related duties as assigned.

     

    Building Maintenance job duties

    • Repair mechanical systems.
    • Perform maintenance of electrical systems.
    • Inspect fire alarm and protection alarm systems and schedule repairs when needed.
    • Perform manual repairs when necessary, including but not limited to fixing locks and replacing windows etc.
    • Conduct general upkeep procedures and other tasks as assigned such as landscaping, painting and carpentry etc.

     

    Requirements

    • 2+ years’ experience as a maintenance technician.
    • Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulic and other systems.
    • Ability to read blueprints, both electrical and mechanical.
    • Knowledge of general maintenance processes and methods.
    • Working knowledge of tools, common appliances and devices.
    • Manual dexterity and problem-solving skills.
    • Great communication skills.
    • Excellent attention to detail.
    • High level of Health & Safety knowledge and standards.
    • High School Diploma/GED Required
    • Post-Secondary education or certification in HVAC, Building Maintenance Technology, fabrication, welding, electrical, and/or manufacturing is considered an asset.
    • Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) is preferred.

    Slitter Operators are responsible for slitting and wrapping rolls of printed plastic product in preparation for shipment to the customer or for delivery to the converting department.  Understanding of how to read dockets and extrapolating the appropriate data to meet customer requirements and Tempo’s quality standards is important in this role.  Basic mechanical abilities will assist Slitter Operators in setting up the slitter accurately allowing for minimal scrap and high quality finished product.

     

    Slitter Operators will be responsible for consistent inspections during the run and are required to record any discrepancies that may occur.  Following the Operating Procedures “OP’s” set out by Tempo that align with the ISO and HACCP program will ensure the required standards are met.

    Job Duties:

     

    • Read dockets, confirm information and set up the slitting machine as per the specifications listed.
    • Load and shaft rolls; run rolls through the slitting machine.
    • Input all required information pertaining to the job into TORI.
    • Cut cores; prepare 6 cores and obtain material required for the next shift; order film and cores for upcoming orders.
    • Supply required samples of each product into docket for future run.
    • Build skids safely in accordance with customer guidelines; strap skids when completed for removal from department.
    • Wrap, weigh and core plug all rolls; create skid tags and accurately label product and skids.
    • Place completed dockets in designated area for the Production Scheduler.
    • Complete Slitter worksheet for First-off inspections.
    • Fill out NMR’s and Action request, as necessary, and assist in rework or repair activities as directed; write out work orders for maintenance.
    • Check in TORI before closing a job to make sure all rolls are used.
    • Perform “Hammer testing” on cores of finished product checking “snugness” on orders 8” or less in length.
    • Confirm slit size with Extrusion and Slitting Manager prior to moving material to converting for product that does not have a “slit” pass listed in TORI.
    • Other duties as required or requested by the Extrusion and Slitting Manager.

     

    Requirements:

    • Grade 12 education or equivalent preferred.
    • Ability to lift over 50lbs on a frequent basis.
    • Basic mechanical skills.
    • Good knowledge of math and units of measurement.
    • Excellent organization skills.
    • Can work with minimal supervision.
    • Experience in the flexographic printing industry as a slitter would be an asset.
    • Safety conscious with the ability to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

    • Order the required materials from internal departments in order to complete each job.
    • Complete orders and assignments in a timely manner with high accuracy.

    • Check the treat and load rolls with the correct orientation.
    • Set up glue stoppers as per the requirements for each job.
    • Pull up the job and check the glue weights.
    • Have a designated individual perform a job check.
    • Other duties as assigned by the Printing Supervisor and/or Printing and Lamination Manager.
